Lecture at MOME

Last week, as a part of my visit to MOME - Moholy-Nagy Művészeti Egyetem (Moholy-Nagy University of Art and Design) in Budapest, Hungary, I gave a lecture about the Design of Dissent. Special thanks to professor Vargha Balazs, who organized this lecture.

Workshop at MOME

Last week, I had a workshop at MOME - Moholy-Nagy Művészeti Egyetem (Moholy-Nagy University of Art and Design) in Budapest, Hungary. The students in the workshop created posters about different social causes. They did an excellent job, especially considering that they only have two and a half days to complete the task. The workshop was organized by professor Vargha Balazs. You can see photographs of the workshop below.

I Want You To Point Finger

Angelina Lippert curator at Poster House wrote an extensive article on their website about my lecture Pointing Finger, a history of pointing finger in graphic design, which was used as a base for their window display for their Hot Poster Gossip window series.

The article includes my comments from the lecture and Angelina's additional research.

Poster for The King of Betajnova

Poster created for the Yugoslav Drama Theater in Belgrade, Serbia for the play The King of Betajnova (Kralj Betajnove) by Ivan Cankar, directed by Milan Neskovic.

The King of Betajnova is a social-critical drama on the complete demise of ethics and justice. The central figure of the play is the factory owner, tycoon and candidate for MP, Jozef Kantor: a social climbing, egocentric, manipulative, violent, power-thirsty materialist… Bribery, dirty lobbying and intrigues are the essential tools for attaining his goal.

9/11 Memorial & Museum

I know lately I've been bragging about my work being in collections of different museums and institutions (MoMA, SFMOMA, The Smithsonian), but I didn't mention before one which is very close to my heart. Not only because I'm a New Yorker, but also because I witnessed the first airplane hitting World Trade Center on September 11th.

Later I felt the urge to create this art called Still Standing which suggests that, in a spiritual sense, the Twin Towers are still in existence. The number of figures I used to construct the image approximates the number of victims of the tragic event.

Now I'm honored that this art was chosen to be part of The National September 11 Memorial & Museum's collection.

Pointing Finger at Poster House

Today Poster House (119 West 23rd Street) unveiled a new window display for their Hot Poster Gossip series, which will be on view until the end of March. The window display is an adaptation of my lecture Pointing Finger, which I gave at the Museum of the City of New York in 2017. The lecture was about the history of the pointed finger appearing in art and poster design.

The window design was created by Ola Baldych.
