Anti-Coronavirus billboards in Zagreb

The Croatian version of my Anti-Coronavirus billboard has been posted on 40 locations round city of Zagreb.

This was made possible by the effort of Nikola Djurek and Damir Belina.

Nikola is font designer, who fonts I use in most of my designs lately, including this one. Damir is the owner of the Belina printing company. He has printed and display on his own expense all of the billboards. For that, I am grateful to both of them.

The billboards photos by Slaven Jandjel.

Motion by Kanzaki Junji

This is my recent acquisition of manga-comics Ai to Fukushuu no Banka (Eternal song of love and revenge) Crime Yakuza story published in Weekly Manga Sunday in 2003, drawn by Kanzaki Junji.

I did not buy this because he is the most amazing manga artist but because he is quite effective drawing of motion/fighting.

More of Junji's Mangas here, here and here.

Survival

I was introduced to Les Lilley by Ervin Rustemagic in 1978 at the Lucca festival in Italy. We socialized there for a couple days together with Joe Kubert, Dino Battaglia, José Antonio Muñoz, Bobby London, Sergio Toppi, and Hugo Pratt.

Three months later through Irwin, I received a one page scenario for comics title Survival. I liked the scenario  a couple months later I drew a six page comic and I sent it to Les. He was quite surprised because he originally intended that the page which he sent to me was just a draft for a comic. Because of my poor english, I had misunderstood. Luckily he loved the comic as I had drawn it.

In 1980, that comic was published in Heavy Metal magazine among other places. That same year Heavy Metal, bought rights to turn the comic into an animation for their Heavy Metal animated movie. Unfortunately turned out that the drawing was too complicated for the technology of animation at that time.

“The Seekers" by John M. Burns and Les Lilley

Here is original art of The Seekers by John M. Burns, which I recently acquired.

The Seekers by John M. Burns (1938) and Les Lilley (1924-1998), ran from 1966 to 1971 in The Daily Sketch. And as you probably noticed, this was an attempt at getting some of that Modesty Blaise dollars. Probably that was one of reasons that in 1978 Burns succeeded Enrique Romero in drawing Modesty Blaise.

On another note, I collaborated with Les Lilley in 1979 on the comic Survival.
