Seventeen posters from my collection are showing as part of the7th annual Jewish Film Festival in Zagreb, Croatia. These seventeen are from the original twenty posters created to announce the Nazi anti-masonic show in Belgrade in 1941. The show and posters were part of the German Nazi anti-masonic and anti-semitic propaganda. Celebrated Croatian graphic designer, Dejan Krsic, donated his time designing the catalog for the show. The show and printing of the catalog were made possible by generous donations from the AIC Foundation Inc.
On May 20, during the Zagreb Jewish Film Festival, I lectured about “Symbols of Hate”. The lecture dealt with local and regional issues of suppression, ignorance of visual symbols and the hate speech of neo-Nazi groups (skinheads, neo-Nazis and radical soccer fans), which have recently increased in strength, in frequency and in violence. The event was attended by many students. There was a lively debate after the lecture amongst the professors and studentsthat lasted almost as long as the lecture itself. This was pretty unusual, but encouraging.
