Mighty Thor

Some time ago, I came across the original comics page from Mighty Thor by John Buscema from 1979. Despite the relatively low price, I didn’t buy it. There was nothing special or unique on that page for me.

But recently, I came across the original sketch of that same page, and whatever the finished page didn’t have, fluidity, dynamic, energy, this sketch had it. And now, this one is mine.

The Book "Making Posters"

I just received this beautiful book Making Posters by Scott Laserow and Natalia Delgado.

"With a special focus on conceptualization, internationally-acclaimed and award-winning designers Natalia Delgado and Scott Laserow takes you though planning, analyzing and creating posters that stop viewers in their tracks. Classic and contemporary examples from around the world show you what can be achieved at the cutting-edge of the medium - from protest and propaganda posters, through pop culture and Swiss style, to animated and interactive designs."

I am pleased that my posters for JDP, Yugoslav Drama Theater in Belgrade, Serbia and for SVA, School of Visual Arts in New York City are included in the book among all these posters from amazing artists from around the world.

Joe Kubert "Winnie Winkle" Part 2

I just acquired another Joe Kubert & the Joe Kubert School Winnie Winkle daily original strip from 1981.

Joe Kubert and his influential school of comics artistry took charge of the pioneering soap-opera feature Winnie Winkle to fulfill an objective for "my students [to] gain experience and make a couple of bucks", as Kubert told The Comics Journal in 1994, adding this: "I suddenly found myself doing the whole strip by myself. So I just dropped it."

I acquired this comic exclusively because of the last frame, it is so Joe Kubert.

Communication Arts - Design Annual 61

When I received the Communication Arts - Design Annual 61, I was pleasantly surprised to see that my name appeared twice.

Once as cover designer and art director for Steven Heller’s book The Swastika and Symbols of Hate: Extremist Iconography Today, and secondly as a client at the Tolerance Project. The magazine featured Taiwanese designer, Leo Lin, who created a poster for the Tolerance Project’s traveling poster show.  Part of his poster is also on the cover of the magazine.

Alex Raymond, Jim Holdaway and... Mirko Ilic

Seeing this cover of this Italian Il Mago comics magazine from 1979, makes me smile.

Not very often, as a matter of fact never before, the face of my comic “ hero”  appeared between faces of Rip Kirby by Alex Raymond and Modesty Blaise  by Jim Holdaway.
