Spotikavci Posters on the Streets of Ljubljana

The first posters for Gunter Demnig's Spotikavci project appeared on the streets in Ljubljana.

Demnig's project, Spotikavci (Stumbling Block) is to replace the cobblestones outside Holocaust victims' homes with brass plates inscribed with short epitaphs. Spotikavci will be unveiled in Ljubljana on August 6, 2018. This event was organized by the Jewish Cultural Centre in Ljubljana.

Flashback

I know some of you, seeing all of these posters, started to worry that I had stopped acquiring comics. Don't worry! Here is a daily comic strip Flash Gordon by Dan Barry and Bob Fujitani from 1978.

Two More Ex-Yu Movie Posters

The first, a poster for Podzemlje Pariza (Paris Underground) from 1955 designed by D. Ivanisevic—unfortunately, I don't know his first name.

The second is a poster for the 1968 cult movie Nevinost bez zastite (Innocence Unprotected) directed by Dusan Makavejev (of W.R.: Mysteries of the Organism fame). This poster is designed by Mihalo Arsovski.
Earlier acquisitions of some other Arsovski move posters can be found here.

Andrija Maurovic Movie Posters

As you noticed, lately I'm acquiring movie posters from old country.

I just got two posters from Andrija Maurovic, the father of Yugoslav/Croatian comics.
The first one is for Pesma sa Kumbare (Songs from Kumbare) from 1955. The second one is for Hajducka Vremena (Times of Outlaws) from 1976.

Along with the poster for Konjuh planinom (Konjuh mountain) from 1966 that I posted previously, I've acquired three movie posters by Maurovic. I hope one day I can get them all.

Spotikavci (Stumbling Block) in Ljubljana

We designed the poster for Gunter Demnig's Spotikavci (Stumbling Block) in Ljubljana.

Demnig replaces the cobblestones outside Holocaust victims' homes with brass plates inscribed with short epitaphs. From Wikipedia: "The Stolperstein project (Stumbling Block) … aims to commemorate individuals at exactly the last place of residency—or, sometimes, work—which was freely chosen by the person before he or she fell victim to Nazi terror, euthanasia, eugenics, was deported to a concentration or extermination camp, or escaped persecution by emigration or suicide."

Spotikavci (Stumbling Block) will be unveiled in Ljubljana on August 6, 2018. This event was organized by the Jewish Cultural Centre in Ljubljana.

Head to Toe Featured on Typeroom

Mine and Steven Heller's book, Head to Toe: The Nude in Graphic Design featured on Typeroom. We spoke about the book, our favorite examples of nudity throughout graphic design history, and the cultural status of the human figure today. Thanks to Loukas Karnis for putting this together.

Zagrem Film poster c. 1957

My newest acquisition is a movie poster c. 1957 featuring eight short animated movies by "Zagreb Film". Among others, the poster features an animation by Dusan Vukotic, who a few years later won an Oscar for his animated movie "Ersatz". This unusual poster is designed by someone who signed his name in the upper right corner as "BR".

Boris Bucan Poster c. 1967

I also acquired one of the earlier, if not one of the first, Boris Bucan posters from 1967. The poster is for the film "Protest" directed by Fadil Hadzic.

"Slogans" Poster by Oddly Head

As you noticed, lately, I'm acquiring posters.
This poster, "Slogans", designed by Oddly Head, I purchased to remind myself and my designer friends about the real purpose of activism.

Did I mention that the poster is numbered and signed?
