"Cabaret" by Wiktor Gorka

In my recent Polish poster acquisition, I also bought this iconic poster for the movie, Cabaret, designed by Wiktor Gorka in 1973.

For many reasons, I always liked this poster. But getting the original I discovered additional element. The black background behind the title, Kabaret is extending in a point and becoming a comic balloon coming out of the mouth of the emcee.

"Diably z Loudun" by Roman Cieslewicz

I recently acquired this striking and very unusual poster for a theater play, Diably z Loudun (Devil in London). The poster was designed by one of the most known Polish designers, Roman Cieslewicz in 1974.

I already had a copy of this once, but few years ago, with additional 5 pieces from Roman, I donated them to The MoMA and now they are in their collection.
I am happy that once again, I have my own copy.

"Bank of Symbols" posters

I recently acquired these 2 posters/catalogues. They were created for the show, Bank of Symbols in 1984 and were designed by Rajka Milović. The show was quite unusual for that time, featuring contemporary Serbian logos from 1960s to early 1980s. On the back of each poster, is a list of credits about the logos on the front. Only 200 copies were printed.

Lenin in the poster

Sometimes in the work of East European artists, especially from the Communist era, it is very hard to know if they are true believers or they are just sarcastic. This movie poster is a good example.

This poster is created for Yugoslav market, by Bole Miloradovic in 1967 and is designed for the award winning (at Cannes festival 1966) Russian-Polish movie titled, Lenin in Poland.

Update of "The Design of Dissent" show at Casa del Lago

Earlier, I posted an announcement along with photographs, about the opening of The Design of Dissent at Casa del Lago in Mexico City. Unfortunately, the photographs of the show were taken during the week and therefore, did not represent the bustling nature of the park. Casa del Lago is located in the Chapultepec park, which is a traditional Sunday walk area for the citizens of Mexico City. The place gets packed with people and vendors, and looks completely different to the images on my original post.

The show was organized by Centro University and the cultural center, Casa del Lago.

"Star Hawks" by Gil Kane

I acquired this Star Hawks comic strip from 1980, created by Gil Kane.
The art is created using markers and is drawn, either over a light box, because it is drawn on relatively thin Bristol paper, or with barely any pencil drawing.

"Design In A City - 1"

Design in a city - 1 is a multi-media show which will be exhibited in 7 different public locations - non-traditional exhibition spaces - in Zagreb, Croatia. The show opens on November 8th and is organized by the Croatian Designers Association (HDD). It consists of design work that was originally displayed on the streets of Zagreb in the 60s and 70s. For more about the show, you can read here. But unfortunately, so far, the text is only in Croatian.

In the 60s and 70s, throughout the city of Zagreb, they had small window displays for public announcements. Amazingly, a few of them are still existing. The Croatian Design Society decided to showcase in them, the work of 6 designers including Mihajlo Arsovski, Dalibor Martinis, Goran Trbuljak, Nenad Pepeonik, and myself. The featured work consists of movie posters created by these designers, which back then, were displayed across the city.

Here below you can see photographs of window display with my movie posters.
