Kunstbibliothek Posters Donation

Some time ago, the Kunstbibliothek-Staatliche Museen zu Berlin requested some of my posters for their collection. On June 22nd, while visiting Berlin, I delivered about 60 of my posters to them.

The Kunstbibliothek is one of the largest museum libraries dedicated to all facets of art history and cultural studies. Above and beyond this, however, it also boasts valuable collections on the history of architecture, photography, graphic design, fashion, book art, and media art. It's extremely diverse, vast holdings include works in a wide variety of media: first editions and historical postcards, illustrated placards and posters, fashion designs, architectural drawings and models, bequests of photograph collections, and Fluxus assemblages. Together, the library and the various museum collections it contains represent the full spectrum of source material on the history of art.

Silence=Death at Poster House

Poster House’s new exhibition, “Love & Fury: New York’s Fight Against AIDS,” is now open until September 6th, 2026. The exhibition explores how graphic design shaped New York’s grassroots response to AIDS from 1979 to 2003. Public health campaigns, agitprop, benefit flyers, and club handbills offer more than messages—they map how communities built survival systems from below, often before the state would act.
 

The show features a poster that I donated to Poster House, titled “Silence=Death” by a collective of six gay New Yorkers.  I also donated copies of this poster to the NewYork MOMA and SFMOMA collections.

 

My Donation to Die Neue Sammlung – The Design Museum in Munich

I’m very pleased to share that I’ve just received a letter from the prestigious Die Neue Sammlung – The Design Museum in Munich, acknowledging my donation of 142 posters, books, and other graphic designs by various artists from around the world.

"Where the Wild Lines Are"

I just received the catalogue for the exhibition Where the Wild Lines Are – Books and Illustrations for Children at Die Neue Sammlung (The Design Museum) in Munich.

This exhibition comprises illustrated children’s books from Die Neue Sammlung’s collection and is curated by Caroline Fuchs. The exhibition will be on display until January 26, 2025.

I am quite pleased to see that several children’s books I donated to the museum are included in both the exhibition and the catalogue, and I even received credit for them.

 

MoMA: "Never Alone-Video Games and Other Interactive Design"

I am very proud to share this news with you. This weekend I went to see "Never Alone-Video Games and Other Interactive Design", a new show at MoMA. I didn't go there only because I liked the shows at MoMA but also because, in this particular show, they displayed the Home Pong video game console that I donated to MoMA in 2015.

This is the second time MoMA has shown one of the many items that I have donated to them. In 2017, in the show "Thinking Machines: Art and Design in the Computer Age, 1959-1989", they displayed Paul Rand's IBM Supply Kit from 1979, which I also donated to them. 

I am so happy to see those items in both shows. It feels almost like I created them.

 

 

The book "My Place Under the Sun" in the kindergarten

Today, December 6th, foundation Zaklada Vincero bought and donated 240 books to kindergarten Potok in Rijeka, Croatia. The book was created to raise awareness and funds for the non-profit organization Moje mjesto pod suncem (My Place Under the Sun).

I came up with the idea of creating a children board book that's based on the idea of a horizontal split of a logo. When one flips through the pages, one is not only exploring different combinations of faces, but also a variety of combinations of words written on the top and bottom pages. For the textual part of the book, I acquired help from famous Croatian writers Slavenka Drakulic and Rujana Jeger. They wrote the text in a way that in every possible page combination, the words always form a sentence that empowers and educates the kids. Altogether, 12 top and 12 bottom pages offer 144 different possible visual and textual combinations. 

All three of us, together with Bodoni publishing company from Zagreb donated all the profit from the book to Moje mjesto pod suncem.

Design of Dissent at TypoPassage Timisoara and the Milton Glaser Design Study Center and Archives

On Sunday, October 7th, we have a lecture and exhibition on the Design of Dissent in Timisoara, Romania. This DoD show is hosted by TypoPassage Timisoara Micro-museum as part of the MAD(E) IN ROMANIA festival. Organized by Ovidiu Hrin, TypoPassage Timisoara "is an open-air micro museum, dedicated to graphic design and the art of shaping letters."

TypoPassage Timisoara will also feature a Tolerance show. We're incredibly grateful for Ovidiu's dedication in organizing both of these shows. This new DoD show is based on the expanded edition. You can see pages from the book on Amazon.

For the first set of traveling shows, and now for this new show, we got lots of original art from the participating artists featured in the book. In order to make them more accessible to students and scholars, these works have been donated to the Milton Glaser Design Study Center and Archives at the School of Visual Arts, categorized under the Design of Dissent Collection. Donation to MoMA

A few pictures from today's visit to Thinking Machines: Art and Design in the Computer Age, 1959-1989 show that opened at MoMA (The Museum of Modern Art, New York) on November 13th.

I'm very happy to let you know that one of my gifts to MoMA, Paul Rand's IBM Supply Kit from 1979 is part of the show. What makes me even more happier is that the poster Tendencije 4 by my old friend, a Croatian designer Ivan Picelj (1924-2011) is also part of the show.

Roman Cieslewicz's posters

Not to think I just like and collect comics, I like and collect other things too. Recently, I got myself this two beautiful posters by Roman Cieslewicz, Polish-French designer. His Amnesty International poster is probably one of my favorite posters. This one is even signed and numbered. I wrote about the influence of that poster on my work in Stefan Sagmeister's book Made you look.

This is the second time I own a copy of this poster. The first one I donated to MoMA.
Later, I regretted it and managed to get another one.

Don't misunderstand me, I like the poster for Moscow Paris show too.

Donation to MoMA

I'm very proud to announce that MoMA (Museum of Modern Art New York) just announced the acceptance of the donation by Veljko Despot and I in their collection.
The donation included a 45rpm vinyl record and collateral material for Beatles Fan Club Yugoslavia designed by Mihajlo Arsovski in 1968.
