The fifth edition of Typographic Design: Form and Communication
by Rob Carter, Ben Day, and Philip Meggs (it is extremely unusual that there is a fifth edition for books about graphic design) features two of our designs: our design for NY Times Arts and Leisure "The Year in Culture" and our spread from the Rizzoli book Elvis + Marilyn 2x Immortal. Typographic Design: Form and Communication is very informative and I highly recommend it.

Louis Silverstein

Yesterday I was saddened to find out Louis Silverstein had died. He was 92. Louis is known for his brilliant contributions to newspaper design. As a creative director of the New York Times, he gave many people the opportunity to grow both personally and professionally. I was fortunate to have the privilege of working with him on creating department headings for Metro Plus, which he kindly included in his book "Newspaper Design For The Times" published in 1990 by Nostrand Reinhold. Steven Heller, another beneficiary of Louis' guidance, wrote a poignant post on the life of this influential man. Read the article here.

Ransom Note

Dallas Graham and I created this ransom note in hopes of getting some money back from
Wall Street (good luck!). The note is created out of bits of logos from different banks and
financial institutions.
