Maumee by Milton Caniff

I recently acquired this very unusual daily comic Steve Canyon by Milton Caniff from 1968.

Milton Caniff remained loyal to his alma mater, Ohio State, often referencing it in his Steve Canyon strips as "Maumee University." In this humorous large panel, Thud Shelley, a Steve Canyon recurring character, takes center stage at the stadium after a bizarre chain of events leads to an unexpected outcome.

I was only surprised because it seemed nobody from Maumee University tried to bid for this comic. Bad for them, good for me.

Steve Canyon Comic Strips by Milton Caniff

When I first saw the originals of Milton Caniff, I was quite surprised with the amount of corrections especially for a style when printed, looks like it was done with extreme ease. But as my friend, Zoran Djukanovic said, "comics is what
you see in print."

I always admired drawing in comics, not necessarily politics, of Milton Caniff. No doubt he has a huge influence on comics artists from Hugo Pratt to Frank Miller.

Because of that, I acquired these couple of frames from his comics "Steve Canyon" from 1964. I just like to touch and see original drawing with traces of pencil and white gauche corrections and see how the artist changed and corrected his mind/drawing.
