Tolerance Workshop in Bucharest

On May 17th there was a lecture and workshop called CITIZEN DESIGNER by Ovidiu Hrin  (Typopassage Tm) and I at the National University of Arts in Bucharest. At the same university on May 17th through 21st, a Tolerance Poster workshop was organized and held for design students and young professionals by Ovidiu Hrin and I.

The lecture and workshop was part of "I❤️DOC” project, promoting excellence in graphic design and documentary cinema. It was organized by Insula 42 and National University of Arts in Bucharest.

The posters created by the students at the workshop will be displayed at Amzei Creative Corner in Bucharest, a venue dedicated to creative industries run by The Institute in Bucharest.

"One-Page Stories - A Selection from Mirko Ilić's Comics Course."

"In this world full of information and stimuli, sometimes we need a little distraction, a good laugh, or a moment of engrossment without committing to an extended read. One-page comics serve this purpose specifically. These bite-sized works combine humor, drama and creativity to achieve their impact on a single page.

 

In the compact world of one-page comics, only one name stands out: Mirko Ilić, who creates a balance between the short format and the depth of what is said, thus setting a new example for young artists. In the autumn semester, he visited MOME's Department of Design Graphics, specializing in illustration, where he held a one-week course. During the week, the students depicted their own narratives on a single page, in addition to the pleasant consultations, they were able to take a look at Mirko's work. Last but not least, the comic books were also completed."

"Social Awareness Posters" Workshop

The last day of the Social Awareness Posters workshop with graphic design students from Faculty of Fine Arts and Graphic Design Department at Yeditepe University Istanbul, Turkey.

Workshop coordinators: Associate Prof. Ozlem Mutaf Buyukarman, Associate Prof. Demet Karapinar, and Dr. Gozde Umur. Workshop student assistants: Zeynep Sari, Izel Vesek, Furkan Uzun, and Atilay Askaroglu.

This workshop was made possible with the dedicated effort of Ozlem Mutaf Buyukarman.

The students at "Rebel with a cause"

This Friday, October 25 was the closing of my show, Rebel with a cause, at Gradska galerija Striegl, Sisak, Croatia, featuring my posters and illustrations. The show was curated by Alma Trauber and Dejan Krsic.

I am really pleased that the show was visited by students of different high schools and middle schools from Sisak, some of whom even had workshops in the gallery.

CENTRO diseño | cine | televisión just posted a little story about my lectures, workshop and the Design of Dissent show at their university in Mexico city in September this year.

Design of Dissent Workshop at CENTRO

Here are a few pictures from a Design of Dissent workshop at the CENTRO school in Mexico City. The workshop went on for three days and included twenty two visual communication students from CENTRO, who created amazing posters. Hopefully I will have a chance to show some of them soon.

A Workshop and Two Lectures at CENTRO

This week I'm going to have a workshop and two lectures at CENTRO diseño cine y televisión, Mexico City. 

The first lecture is titled Trajectory, Experience and Practice and will be on Tuesday, September 3 and on Wednesday, September 4 the second lecture titled Design: From Right to Left.

Henry Ford Academy Workshop Show

For the recent Drinks x Design event, organized by Design Core Detroit, in collaboration with Cooper Hewitt at the MOGO warehouse there was a show of posters created by the high school senior students.

These posters are a result of a social awareness workshop that Mantrell Goodrum and I gave at the Henry Ford Academy in Detroit on April 8th. Despite the very short amount of time devoted to the workshop, the students managed to create powerful and meaningful posters for causes close to their hearts.

All of this was made possible by the efforts of Carlos Estrada, the programming VP and Content Lead in Diversity and Inclusion Task Force at AIGA, and Manal Kadry, the Art and Design Chair Leadership Team.
