Going through my archive, I came across these Time magazine covers.

The covers shown here do not include those I designed when I was an art director of Time magazine. These are the covers I worked on solely as an illustrator. They are presented in chronological order, though a few are missing.

Unfortunately, a lot of these cover stories are still relevant today.

 

Once, I shared covers and back covers bylines with Breccia, Bilal, Eisner, Corben, Toppi, Gimenez, Jones, and many more of my idols and comic legends.

Here are some of the covers of the Spanish comic magazines "1984" and "Ilustracion + Comix Internacional", published by "Toutain Editor" in 70's and 80's.

The exhibition in Koprivnica, Croatia

 "The exhibition MIRKO ILIC: FROM THE HISTORY OF HUMAN STUPIDITY – THE DESIGN HISTORY OF THE WORLD opens at AK GALLERY in Koprivnica on Friday, October 7th at 7 p.m.

The exhibition presents a panoramic view of Ilić's work ranging from posters, newspaper covers and illustrations to comics, from the mid-1970s to today, remixed as a narrative about the 20th and 21st centuries and one possible reading of the moment we live in and what has become of us that led to that moment. The exhibition in Koprivnica marks its tenth appearance after the premiere in Zagreb in September of last year. It will remain open until October 27th. The curator of the exhibition is Marko Golub."

Today, at Gallery HDD - Hrvatsko dizajnersko društvo / Croatian Designers Association in Zagreb, is the opening of the show of my work. The show is titled From History of Human Stupidity. 

The concept of the show and selection of the work is by Marko Golub. 

The show is going to be open till October 1st, 2021.

Corridos Perrones, No. 211

A couple of years ago, I came across some Mexican adult comics covers. I was totally fascinated with them. Not because they are totally politically incorrect with their grotesque, violent and sexual content, but how they are well-drawn and skillfully rendered.

 
In researching them, I came across this website. And to my astonishment, I discovered hundreds and hundreds of them.

 
Recently, I managed to buy an original illustration for one of the covers pencilled by Oscar Bazaldua and gouache-painted by Ivan Santillan. Probably two of the most talented artists that worked on the covers of these comics. When I got the original, I was a little bit puzzled on why the artist decided to awkwardly hide the feet of the female character. When I managed to find the cover the art is used for, I discovered that the feet are covered by letters. Time management.

 

Novum Magazine Cover

Gebrauchsgraphik / Novum Magazine was first published in 1924 and is one of the oldest running graphic design magazines to date. For their 95th anniversary birthday Novum decided to ask 6 designers to reinterpret one of the 1,000 covers that have been published between 1924 and now. I was honored to be one of those designers. 

I chose issue number 2 from 1924. The theme of the issue was tobacco and design. That particular issue was full of very kitschy gold foil stamped, ‘tipped-in' labels. Which was in total contrast with the “George Grosz-like” whimsical cover. 




  

Last Issue of Print Magazine

I just received the new and last issue of Print Magazine. Unfortunately, I am not in it. But thanks to the artwork of Debbie Millman, I'm on it! And in good company. My question is: if Print is dead, and this is the last issue, is my name on a tombstone?
