I recently went through my storage and came across this 1962 Milton Glaser poster, Possession. It is probably one of the first Milton Glaser posters.

It was an advertisement for an exhibition at the School of Visual Arts of objects owned by the faculty that would reveal something about their aesthetic preferences. In the background of this disturbing object is the face of illustrator Paul Davis.

By today's standards, this is a totally politically incorrect image.

The show is based on the Milton Glaser: POP book published by Monacelli Press and written by Steven Heller, Beth Kleber and I.

I just received this beautiful book Making Posters by Scott Laserow and Natalia Delgado.

I am pleased that my posters for JDP, Yugoslav Drama Theater in Belgrade, Serbia and for SVA, School of Visual Arts in New York City are included in the book among all these posters from amazing artists from around the world.

"Design of Dissent" in The Milton Glaser Archives

On October 10th 2018, School of Visual Arts posted a feature on "Design of Dissent", in the Milton Glaser Design Study Center and Archives: a collection of works with the intention of archival in academic context. I have written "Design of Dissent" with Milton Glaser, and I am happy to have donated over 300 pieces of artwork for the future study and understanding of political design that continues to be relevant regardless of era.

"The Milton Glaser Design Study Center and Archives and the SVA Archives, the two archival collections housed within the SVA Library, have recently launched their new website, accessible at both glaserarchives.org and svaarchives.org. Visitors can now learn more about and view selections from both archives' collections, schedule appointments to visit the archives in person, and more."

The History of Graphic Design: Vol. 2, 1960-Today - Continued

I just received two more spreads containing my work from the new Taschen book The History of Graphic Design: Vol. 2, 1960-Today. This extremely large book was written by Jens Müller and edited by Julius Wiedemann.

The first spread contains my New York Times Op-Ed page designs from 1992-1993:

Design of Dissent at TypoPassage Timisoara and the Milton Glaser Design Study Center and Archives

On Sunday, October 7th, we have a lecture and exhibition on the Design of Dissent in Timisoara, Romania. This DoD show is hosted by TypoPassage Timisoara Micro-museum as part of the MAD(E) IN ROMANIA festival. Organized by Ovidiu Hrin, TypoPassage Timisoara "is an open-air micro museum, dedicated to graphic design and the art of shaping letters."

TypoPassage Timisoara will also feature a Tolerance show. We're incredibly grateful for Ovidiu's dedication in organizing both of these shows. This new DoD show is based on the expanded edition. You can see pages from the book on Amazon.

For the first set of traveling shows, and now for this new show, we got lots of original art from the participating artists featured in the book. In order to make them more accessible to students and scholars, these works have been donated to the Milton Glaser Design Study Center and Archives at the School of Visual Arts, categorized under the Design of Dissent Collection. Enclosed here is a page from the SVA Visual Arts Journal about this collection.

Underground Images in The Hague, Holland

Underground Images, the traveling retrospective of SVA's long-running subway poster series just got installed at De Affiche Galerij at the train station designed by Rem Koolhaas’ OMA in The Hague, Holland. The show will be open from February 1st to March 6th.

Underground Images, the traveling retrospective of SVA's long-running subway poster series just got installed at the world's only drive-by gallery, the 3sec.gallery in Breda, Holland. The posters will be on view through April 8th.

The show will also be installed at De Affiche Galerij in The Hague from February 1st to March 6th.

Underground Images at Artediez Art School

"Underground Images" the traveling retrospective of SVA's long-running subway poster series, recently opened in Madrid, Spain at Artediez Art School, that has a great tradition in teaching visual arts and design. It was organized and designed by Sonia Díaz and Gabriel Martínez from the collective Un Mundo Feliz. The show will be open until October 31st.
