20 Famous Graphic Designers Who Shaped the Industry

I was just alerted about this post from the PixCap website titled "20 Famous Graphic Designers Who Shaped the Industry".

I am not sure exactly how I deserve to be one of the twenty, but in this case, I am deciding not to complain about being in the company of Paul Rand, Saul Bass, Milton Glaser, Massimo Vignelli, and others.

You can read more here.

Opening of Exhibition "Face to Face" in Banja Luka

On Thursday, April 11th, the Museum of Modern Art of Republika Srpska opened an exhibition of my works titled "Face to Face.”

'This exhibition, for the first time in our country, offers the opportunity to look at Ilic's rich career. The exhibition of Mirko Ilic, one of the world's leading designers, born in Bijeljina, shows several cycles of posters and other graphic design works, one number of which were donated to the Museum of Modern Art of Republika Srpska. Within the exhibition, his original works, part of the Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art collection in Rijeka, are shown as posters made for the Yugoslav Drama Theater in Belgrade as well as comic books combined with reproductions. The exhibition was realized in cooperation with the Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art in Rijeka and the Croatian Design Society in Zagreb.’

The exhibition was curated by Marko Golub and designed by Nemanja Mićević. It will be open until June 6th, 2024.

I would certainly like to thank the staff of the Museum of Modern Art of Republika Srpska and, above all, the museum's director, Sara Vujković; without her efforts, this exhibition would not have happened.

My JDP Poster Show in Belgrade

I am happy to share with you that today was the opening of my JDP-Yugoslav Drama Theater poster design show in Belgrade, Serbia.

The posters will be exhibited in front of the Belgrade City Library at Knez Mihailova 56 from today, September 8, until September 19.

I designed the first poster for the JDP in 2017 for the play "Einstein's Dreams." Since then, my posters have announced every new premiere for the last six seasons. Among them is a new poster for the play "The Disease of Youth" by Ferdinand Brukner, directed by Jovana Tomić. The play will premiere on Saturday, September 16, marking the continuation of this successful and fruitful collaboration.

Many of these posters were exhibited and awarded around the world. This show also celebrates 75 years of JDP, and our work together. After a decades-long tradition of nurturing strong visuality in graphic design and overall artistic effect on its viewers and the general public, the JDP presents the fruits of this success with this exhibition.

My SP Designs

A friend of mine from Novi Sad, Serbia sent me a present. It is a single vinyl record (SP) that I designed for a Novi Sad band Labaratorija, "Virgin 69" in 1982. From my hundreds of record designs I think I had the most fun with SPs. Starting with my first SP for Prljavo kazaliste, "My Father Was in the War" in 1979, to my last SP for Rage Against the Machine, "Bulls on Parade" in 1996. The reason for this is probably because at that time everybody paid less attention to SPs than to LPs. That gave me a chance to have a little bit more fun.

And probably for the same reason, some of these SPs are in the MOMA’s collection in New York and were displayed in the Making Music Modern: Design for Ear and Eye show.

Graphis Design Awards 2024

I'm pleased to announce that my Milton Glaser: POP book I design received a silver award from the Graphis Design Awards Competition 2024.

I designed this book with the help of Ignacio Serrano and Xiaohua Yang.

The book was published by Monacelli Press and contains well over 1100 visuals. It covers Milton Glaser's work from when he was a 12-year-old (1942) through 1975.

You can see more pages of the "Milton Glaser: POP" book here.
